Below is a pānui from Tireni Ratema. Tireni is interested in your feedback on what you would like to see at the Māori Conservation Hui in 2021.

“Whakarongo! whakarongo! Whakarongo ake nei au ki te tangi o te manu tui, e tui tui tuia ki runga tuia ki raro tuia ki roto, tuia ki waho.  Tuia te here tangata, ka rongo te pō, ka rongo te ao.  Tuia te muka tangata i takaia mai, i Hawaiki-nui, Hawaiki-roa, Hawaiki-pāmamao.  Te hono ā wairua i whakaputaina ki te whai ao, ki te ao mārama. Tihei Mauri ora!

Ngati Uenukukōpako and Te Arawa has been successful in our tono to host Kahui Taiao Tūroa – Māori Conservation Hui 2021. This hui started in Waikaremoana in 2014 and has been growing each year with whānau, hapū and iwi coming together under the korowai of kaitiakitanga and tikanga.  We envisage the Te Arawa hui being the biggest yet!

This hui is a “grass roots” approach to Matauranga Māori Taiao in the respective host area, and across Aotearoa. Gathering whānau together to share, inspire and strengthen our practices.

Ngāti Uenukukōpako will hold the mauri for the hosting, however the event belongs to Te Arawa.

Planning is in the initial stages and feedback is being gathered to help shape a vision and establish a way forward for this auspicious event.

Please put forward your ideas by completing the form here. Please print out for our kaumātua/ pakeke that may not have access to email. We would also like to hear from rangatahi.

Email your completed form to Tireni Ratema by Monday 11 May 2020: [email protected] or call 021 214 6737.
